Uniting for United Food Drive Collects Over 6 tons of Food and 45,000 Meals

Jul 10, 2018
NORWICH CT (JULY 10, 2018) – The third annual Uniting for United Competitive Food Drive brought together 50 local businesses for a cause greater than them all – ending hunger in New London County. Participating businesses brought in more than 6 tons of food and $8,500 in cash donations. Together, this is the equivalent of 45,000 meals, which will help feed the nearly 33,000 food insecure residents in New London County during the upcoming summer months. The collection benefited the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center, a program of United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, which struggles each summer season to provide food to the residents in need.

Co-founders of the event, Rotary Community Corp of Norwich and Savings Institute Bank & Trust, spearheaded the annual event with participants from the Greater Norwich Chamber of Commerce helping to add additional participants and grow the event. Guided by RCC’s Dan Spellman, and Savings Institute Bank & Trust’s Cassandra Giovanni, the committee gathered up local businesses to compete. Media sponsor, The Bulletin, provided advertising and the leadership of Nadine Fuller, publisher at the paper. Additional media sponsors included Hall Communications and Full Power Radio.
