NORWICH CT (MAY 1, 2018) – Savings Institute Bank & Trust, along with Rotary Community Corps of Norwich, The Bulletin and The Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce are proud to announce the third annual Uniting for United Competitive Food Drive. The event will benefit the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center, a program of United Way of Southeastern Connecticut. Last years’ competition brought together over 20 local businesses in 75 different locations, and the event has raised more than $10,000 and 15,000 pounds of food since it was founded in 2015.
This year’s competition is slated to begin May 14th and will run until May 31st, with the official weigh-in collection in the Surplus Unlimited parking lot in Norwich on June 1st, which will include on-site media coverage, raffles and food vendors. Over 75 local businesses with 150+ locations will compete to collect the most food in three categories including a business type category, overall weight category, and an overall monetary collection category.
“We’re proud to continue to expand the competition, bringing in The Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce to help us spread the word about this worthy event,” stated Cassandra Giovanni, Marketing Manager at Savings Institute Bank & Trust and co-founding member of the event. “Our goal this year is to double both our participants and the amount of food and money collected.”
Sponsors for this year’s event include major media sponsor, The Bulletin; Hall Communications, Full Power Radio, and Cumulus Radio as radio sponsors; Collection Transport sponsors Scranton Motors, Inc. and J+G Trucking and Collection Location sponsor, Surplus Unlimited.
