.BANK Top Level Domain

Savings Institute Bank & Trust Successfully Converts to .Bank Domain

Oct 31, 2017

WILLIMANTIC CT (OCTOBER 2017) – Recently, Savings Institute Bank & Trust announced it would be moving its website from a .COM domain to the more secure .BANK domain. The Bank successfully migrated the site on September 14, 2017. The decision to convert domains was made in alignment with the Bank’s forward-thinking cyber security values. Traditionally, financial institutions have had a .COM web domain, and just about anyone can obtain one of these without verification that they are who they say they are. Only after a rigorous verification process can a .BANK domain be obtained, and this domain name is enhanced with many security requirements.

“We pride ourselves in being at the forefront of cyber security and protecting our customers’ personal information is a top priority.” stated Jason White, Chief Information Officer for Savings Institute Bank & Trust. “The dot bank migration process took us a little bit over eighteen months and gives our customers peace of mind that their communications and information are secure.”

The Bank’s customers haven’t seen any significant changes. Their online banking login information remains the same and if they type in .COM instead of .BANK, they are automatically and securely routed to savingsinstitute.bank. Savings Institute Bank & Trust is the first bank in the Northern CT and Southern RI region to convert over to a .BANK hosted site and will be further enhancing customer communication in 2018 with the migration of their email domain.
