NORWICH CT – Savings Institute Bank & Trust’s Norwich Branch Manager, Barry Shead, was recently honored at the 53rd Annual Freedom Fund Gala held by the Norwich NAACP. Barry received the President’s Award for Community Service and special recognition from Senator Richard Blumenthal for his efforts to make the Norwich community great.
“This is a well-deserved recognition for Barry’s commitment to the Norwich community,” stated Rheo Brouillard, CEO and President, Savings Institute Bank & Trust. “We cannot be more proud of the work he’s done and continues to do. Barry’s a great ambassador for the bank, embodying our strong community values in the way he gives back.”
During Barry’s acceptance speech he spoke about Jacqueline Owen’s, Norwich NAACP President. “Thirty years of service is a long time. I’ve known many people who take up a cause or organization, then fade away after 5 or maybe even 10 years. 30 years of service is commendable and I congratulate you on your accomplishment. Jackie Owens, you may not be large in stature, but you’re a giant among us who serve our community.”
Barry was a charter member of the committee that established a ‘Celebrate Cultural Diversity’ event in Norwich, along with founding the Lottie B. Scott Celebrate Cultural Diversity award, which recognizes an individual each year who has worked to make a difference in promoting education and understanding of various cultures in the city of Norwich. In addition, he founded the Ralph Learned Community/Military Service Award to highlight a member of the military who is serving their country and making a difference in the local community. Barry is a past president of the Norwich Rotary Club and is a member of many other organizations that focus on the community. He lives in Woodstock with his wife, Brenda.
