Uniting for United Competitive Food Drive a Resounding Success

Jun 27, 2016

NORWICH CT (Jume 2016) – The first annual Uniting for United Competitive Food Drive took place from May 23rd – June 3rd and inspired local businesses to come together for a cause greater than them all – ending hunger in New London County. With over 20 local businesses participating, the final tally brought in more than 9000 pounds of food and $3,900 in cash donations. Together, this is the equivalent of 46,000 meals, which will help feed the nearly 22,000 food insecure residents in New London County for two months. Additionally, Poland Spring donated 1,500 cases of water to the competition.

The major sponsors of the event, Rotary Community Corp of Norwich and Savings Institute Bank & Trust, began planning the event in early March and gathered up local businesses to compete, along with finding media sponsors to assist with spreading the word. These media sponsors included The Bulletin, Hall Communications, Cumulus Radio and Full Power Radio. There were eight category winners and one overall winner.
