CHFA Special Home Financing Programs Featured at Realtor Event

Feb 07, 2013

NORWICH, CT (January 31, 2013) –  More than 80 realtors attended an event here at the Holiday Inn designed to help get the word out about the many state-sponsored programs available to first time homebuyers. The event was co-sponsored by Savings Institute Bank & Trust and CHFA.

“The Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) has a myriad of terrific, money-saving programs to help more and more people achieve their dream of home-ownership. The problem we run into,” explained Melissa Phillips, Savings Institute Vice President, Mortgage Sales Manager, “is people just don’t know what’s available. Our intent with this event was to address that problem.”

The event featured CHFA Chief Housing Officer Dara Kovel and Manager of Residential Mortgage, Valencia Taft-Jackson. Together, they discussed CHFA services offered, and how to access them.  The discussion included who qualifies, what properties are eligible and how a realtor’s buyer can receive down payment assistance. In addition, details regarding CHFA’s Homeowner’s Equity Recovery Opportunity (HERO) Loan Program, which offers special financing for foreclosed, short sale and abandoned properties, were also reviewed.

“Realtors are a great source of information for homebuyers, so we welcomed the invitation from SIBT to present to the group and answer their questions about the CHFA mortgages,” observed CHFA’s Dara Kovel. “We consider the Savings Institute one of our key partners in fulfilling our mission.”

Created in 1969 by the Connecticut Legislature as a self-supporting quasi-public housing agency charged with the purpose of expanding affordable housing opportunities for Connecticut’s low- and moderate-income families and individuals, CHFA offers an extensive array of programs which are available at banks.  Information on these programs can be accessed at www.chfa.org.  Savings Institute Bank & Trust Mortgage Originators are trained to be knowledgeable about the programs offered, and proudly make their customers aware of the opportunities when appropriate.
